On our way driving across the country from VA to CA, Connor complained of a sore throat. After the 3rd day, Scott said, "Look at his throat." I did and said, "He's got strep." So we continued on our drive and we arrived in Demming, New Mexico to stop for the night. After checking in, we promptly found an urgent care to get his throat looked at. Tech took a rapid strep and the doc comes in and says, "Well, the strep came back negative so let's take a look." She gets a tongue depressor, tells him to open up and says, "OH! Your POOR thing. That looks awful! Let's get you on meds right away." Rushed to the pharmacy to pick up the antibiotics before they closed for the evening and we were on our way the next morning. Connor finished the antibiotics and has been great.
Fast forward to last night and Connor says his throat is hurting again. It looks EXACTLY like it did 3 weeks ago. No fever, no cold symptoms. Just this gnarly looking throat. So, off to meet our new doc today. She takes a look, does a rapid strep and it comes back negative. Then she says, "I'd like to test for something else... Mono."
Good news.... the strep was negative.
Bad news... he has mono.
Connor asked her how he got it. She said, "Usually, at your age, from sharing drinks, utensils, etc. Sometimes they call it the "kissing disease." I looked at Connor and said, "Well, who have you been kissing because we all know you are a huge Germaphob so there's no way you got it from sharing drinks or food because you refuse to do either with ANYBODY." :-)
The world may never know....
