Happy Fall Y'all

Fall has found its way to the high desert! The weather has been cool and crisp with bright sunshine. It's unusual for us to have fall temperatures so early but we are enjoying it.

Yesterday our homeschool group made the trek up into the mountains to Tehachapi to go apple picking. This year we went to Pulford's Apple Orchard. Mr. Pulford was a lot of fun and we learned all about us orchard. We learned why those red delicious apples that look so yummy are always gross and mealy. (Has something to do with sitting in cold storage for a year or so before we buy them from the store)
We picked Empire and Melrose apples. They are a little sweet and a little tart. DELICIOUS! I made an apple cake yesterday and will make an apple and pear crisp later this week. After picking our apples we had lunch at the Apple Shed. What a yummy day it was...
